Merike studied social work at Tallinn University and has devoted most of her working life to the field of mental health. She has worked as a social worker and also as the head of the Tallinn Mental Health Center for nearly ten years before founding her own company Head Taastumise Teenused.

She is also the  founder of webpage Vaimse Tervise Heaks (For Your Mental Health), where you can access professional and evidence-based information about mental health in the form of online lectures by the best professionals in Estonia.
